“It’s not all in your mind but if you don’t control your mind, then the rest doesn’t matter.”
Embrace the Within
Fake it until you make it? Hearing that a lot and I’m done with hearing it. Faking it is not where you want to be. Own it and then you won’t be fake. You should never want to pretend that you’re something you are not. Your brain knows you’re lying to it.
A much better way of getting to become the person you want to become is just simply owning that life. Consider the person you want to be in five years and start doing the things that future you does. Adopt those characteristics, those mannerisms, those expectations and you will quickly find yourself on the road to becoming that person.
Folks will notice the change and reinforce your belief in who you are. They don’t know you’re adopting these new characteristics right now and don’t feel comfortable yet with the new you. Folks just see your external representation. And they will reinforce that representation.
We often get things the wrong way. We spend a lot of time preparing for change internally. We want to get ourselves in the right space before we make an external change. That is totally backwards. The internal change takes much longer than the external change. And while the external change has already happened, the internal change will continue and progress from the positive reinforcement we get from the external change.
No one knows what’s going on inside your head but you. And you can keep it that way or you can broadcast it all over the world. You get to choose the persona you adopt and share with the world. Maybe it’s not the you that you are internally just yet. But it can be the you you’re working towards in the future.
So, if you met your future you today. What would that you from the future be like? How would that future you act? Adopt those qualities today. You’ll be that much closer to being that future you.
Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
