Personal Meditation No. 85

“It’s not all in your mind but if you don’t control your mind, then the rest doesn’t matter.”

Embrace the Within.

Every day we get the opportunity to make the changes we want. We also get the opportunity to remain in our rut. The great thing about every day is the chance for change. And it doesn’t have to be monumental change. It only needs to be small change. Each small step in the direction you want to go is important.

I have been changing for years philosophically. Until recently, my social and physical change was really stunted. But once I acknowledged that my philosophy was out of line with my lifestyle, then the change occurred. It wasn’t natural but it was gradual. It’s difficult to build those sort of changes over night.

So, over the past two years, I’ve been baby-stepping the plan. I transformed my yard into a small-scale egg operation into a working garden with three greenhouses and a self-sustaining chicken and rabbit population. I didn’t build that all in a month, a week, or a day. It took deliberate planning and a long-term plan to get everything together. But it all started with accepting that I needed to make the change.

Now, instead of working all day to play etch-a-sketch with my brain by drinking, I go out to the plantation and put in the work. I slowly purchased the lumber and the dirt. I slowly amassed a variety of seeds. I slowly mapped out water and electrical supplies. I slowly put together a plan and the plan is still changing.

This past year I learned a lot about what I can grow and what I can’t grow. I learned a lot about natural means to cut down on insects. I learned a lot about lowering the pH of my soil because chicken shit isn’t the best fertilizer. I bought rabbits for their shit to use instead as part of the soil improvement program. I learned about lime and diatomaceous earth. I learned a lot. And moving towards the end of the second year, I have a clearer vision of next planting season and the winter in the greenhouses.

All I am saying is I didn’t get there overnight. I went forward with a plan that taught me as I progressed. I learned through failure and success but mostly failure. And I keep moving forward. I can say that I am much happier spending time outside doing work whether it’s cleaning out a chicken coop, cutting down trees, planting seeds, or any other aspect of working and changing the plan than I was sitting inside escaping. I don’t want to escape anymore. I want to be exactly where I am.

And I have built a life that aligns with what I want. You can have what you want too. It only takes embracing your vision and working towards that goal. It doesn’t take millions of dollars to get there. It takes small investments in the direction you want to go. It takes small investments in you. And you’re worth it because you’re the only you you have.

So, start working toward that goal today? Keep putting in the small victories? Build the routine for success? You might enjoy embracing the newer, better you.

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
