“Only you can bring yourself peace.”
Embrace the Within.
Most people are not at a place where they’re ready for change. Folks enjoy their ruts. It typically takes momentous events to elicit any sort of change out of them. They need something earth-shaking to alter their life.
It took the fear of my family starving to get me to change. It took me realizing how truly enslaved I was to get me to focus on freedom. Freedom to eat, freedom to think, freedom to live as life was intended to be lived. Not as a child or a dependent but as someone independent. The process is still ongoing. But I am taking the steps to fix the errors in thinking of my past. I am working on being as free as I can in an unfree world.
There is a peace that settles over me out there in the garden. Whether I’m taking down trees or feeding the rabbits, or repotting plants, there is a calm. There is no rush to get things done quickly. There is no pressure to conform to a schedule outside of sunrise and sunset. There is only a peace in getting the jobs done.
Every day over the past year, I’ve been working on finding that peace. The peace that rests inside of each of us. The calm we get when we’re in balance. When our body, our mind, and our soul are working together in harmony. And I think I’m starting to get there.
I am cutting the burdens of helping people that don’t want to be helped. I am cutting the burdens of trying to solve all the world’s problems. I am cutting the burden of caring about the news of the world. I am cutting the burden of caring about things that don’t care about me. I am cutting the burden of a fake existence.
It isn’t easy. When you’re living with four decades of conditioning and indoctrination, there is a lot to unpack. It would have been much easier ten years ago, twenty years ago, thirty years ago, or never having these programs and systems conditioned into me. But, it is what it is. And I can blame everyone for what they did however well-intentioned or I can take ownership of my body, my mind, my life and get that back.
So, I’m going to take myself back. Sure, it’s a tiny step here and a tiny step there but it’s progress. I’ll be working on this until I die, so there is no rush to get complete. There is only waking every day and working my way to being better. Whether it’s clearing out a path in the woods for walks or cleaning out the rabbit cages or planning for the next season of planting, it is all a tiny step in the overall picture.
So, I hope you are making progress in whatever you feel will bring you peace. Because you’re not going to find a lot of it out there in the news, at work, on social media, at school, or televised. Because, as was said, the revolution will not be televised. The revolution is what the system does not want. The revolution is working on your own peace and forgetting about the systems. The systems only have the importance you give them. They have no power on their own. But I digress into thoughts for another day.
I hope you find your peace and you’re working to get there.
Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
