Personal Meditation No. 8
"I believe you can surpass my achievements because I have been where you are and this is not my final destination."
Embrace the Within.
This change stuff is difficult. Our brains are wired for consistency and that makes changing your routine into something different a battle. Because until that change becomes the consistency, your mind is going to fight the change.
I just moved this week from a four day process of this change into a full-time adoption of the change and accepting that change is difficult. My brain wants to cheat. My brain wants to return to unhealthy. My brain is fighting the process. So, how can you handle this? How can I get up every day and work out, fast until ten a.m., eat healthy things, drink plenty of water . . . How can I maintain the routine in spite of my brain? Take it one day at a time, one hour at a time, one moment at a time.
To establish a routine takes over a month of dedication to that new routine. I realized that giving myself days off from the routine was hurting my chances of being successful. What’s the point of half-assing health? Explain that to my lizard brain that wants to sugar itself, seed oil itself, alcohol itself into the old me I was trying to change.
Remember that your brain is not always out for your best interest. You have to reprogram that brain into what you want. And it is a daily process. You don’t win this battle over night but you can start that battle over night. You can accept that the change is going to be a battle at first but once you establish a routine the battle calms, while the war continues daily.
But all you have to do is keep it together today. And anyone can do anything for just one day. And ultimately all you have is today.
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
