Personal Meditation No. 68
“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”
Embrace the Within.
One thing I have been noticing of late is this overwhelming urge to believe everyone is full of shit. It is just a prevailing attitude among people that whatever someone else is saying is just complete bullshit. That person is automatically and by default full of shit.
Now there are some positives to this belief structure. Because, quite frankly, there are so many folks feeding us influence and nonsense whenever we interact with the outside world, that maybe a little bit of healthy skepticism and disbelief is not only important but somewhat required to navigate the world of humans. But I think it’s gone far beyond just healthy skepticism into downright disdain for strangers.
What does it say about us if we think everyone else is automatically full of shit? Well, there isn’t just one reason for this belief system in folks. Sure, a lot of folks have been used and manipulated before. There are a sea of bitter posts about boyfriends, girlfriends, astrological signs, salesmen, dealers, politicians, officials, leaders, and other folks that litter social media. There lies behind those posts folks that are working through things. And it appears there are a great number of these folks.
I was one of those folks not too long ago. My state of being, my mental health was not my fault. It was something to blame on the actions of others. It was a stranger that questioned my beliefs that made me angry and call them names. It was a former colleague that was on the other side of a political issue that made me act foolish. It was government policies that made me angry and hateful. But, I was wrong about that like all those other folks we see swinging at life. Hitting and blaming their way into a deeper hole. A hole you can easily climb right out of when you realize I control my thoughts, my actions, my life.
I’m done being against things. I am about things. I embrace that my actions are the outward manifestation of my beliefs. If I want anything in my life to change, from my actions to my situation, then I have to change my thoughts about life. I have to embrace the opportunity before me, be grateful for the chance to be better, and visualize the narrative I want going forward.
Maybe you think that’s bullshit too. And I can’t control how you think or what you believe. I can only control what I choose.
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
