Personal Meditation No. 67

“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Embrace the Within.

There is a difference between talking about freedom and getting yourself free. And talking about freedom in theory and reading books about the philosophy of freedom are widely more accepted diversions than getting your hands dirty with getting free.

You can’t outsource your freedom. You have to make the decision to get yourself free. No one is coming to save you or free you. That work has to get done inside your own life and your circle of control. You’re not going to beg or march or vote or elect or protest or plead your way to getting free.

It has to start with getting your hands dirty with yourself. Putting in the work on what you need to fix about you. Over the past few years and, even more importantly, over the past fourteen days that have seemed much longer, that has been my process. Getting to the bottom of cutting through and building up what needs work.

Am I working that system perfect? Not even close to a chance. But I am working every day to move the balance to where I want it to be. That means every morning waking up and putting in the work. The work isn’t going to get done by anyone else. I can’t hire someone to do the work on me. I can’t rely on someone to show up and grant me freedom. I have to wake every morning and put in the work.

I have to take care of my self. I have to work on avoiding all the bad fuels that are abundant around me that are no good for my body. I have to work on avoiding the bad ideas that are abundant around me that are no good for my mind. I have to work on getting my finances and property in order to avoid being beholden to anyone else for my livelihood. I have to work on those things every day. I have to get myself free every day. But what’s the point in saying I want to be free if I don’t live that idea. If I don’t wake up every morning and put in the work on being free? If I don’t wake up every day working on my own freedom, then who else is going to work on it? I could talk about freedom or I can get my hands dirty. And I like digging the dirt out from under my nails. I like the cuts and scrapes. I like giving my tetanus shot a work out. I like working on me. Ultimately, who else am I going to put in the work on?

I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.

I got tired of looking for places to place blame and others to fix my problems. I hope you find some of what you're looking for here as well.
