Personal Meditation No. 51

"I am only the choices I make. My past, my present, and my future depend on what character I choose to embrace and what narrative I choose to tell."

Embrace the Within.

I am an early riser in case you couldn’t tell and for the majority of my life, excluding adolescence, that is how my body has and continues to work. I choose to embrace that aspect of my life and use it to my advantage. I choose to front load my day with mental and physical exercise and some easy wins to set the tone for the day ahead. I like to get my chores and tasks finished early so I can then go about the rest of the day.

The morning is also when I find my most energy and motivation to get things done. I embrace that fact in my home and work life. I know that after about ten a.m, the ambition, energy, and motivation are running dry. So, I structure my home and work schedule to take advantage and embrace the way my body works.

I think a lot of us are trying to force our bodies and minds to do things they don’t. It’s unnatural for every body and every mind to work in the same structure, the same schedule, but the eight-hour, forty-hour, schedule expects that conformity. I know some people are made for something else, some people want something else, some people need something else.

And I can’t tell you what it is for you. I like being outside. I like working with my hands. I like nature. I like books. I like learning how the brain works. I like myths and heroes. I like story-telling. What do you like? And importantly are you doing what you like? Are you following your bliss?

A hero doesn’t have to go out and slay a dragon or destroy a ring or save the world . . . The true story of the hero is in their killing of their self. The true hero throws off the “thou shalts” of the society and embraces the nature of the greatness within. A hero sets out to save the world and ends up saving themself in the process.

So, be a hero today? Find that thing that makes you happy? Find your bliss and follow it? Embrace the within? Save yourself? Save the world?

I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
