Personal Meditation No. 45
“It’s not all in your mind but if you don’t control your mind, then the rest doesn’t matter.”
Embrace the Within.
We all get to choose how we react to thoughts, people, and actions. What we sometimes find difficult to accept is that everyone else gets to choose how they react as well. And with that comes a lot of the strife and turmoil of our lives, not accepting the free will of others.
I used to spend a lot of time fighting with the reality that most people I talked to didn’t think like me. I did my best to pretend I cared about sports and politics and pop culture but I really didn’t. I was really concerned with what made people act like sports and politics and pop culture was important to their lives. And I still get frustrated with all the bread and circuses of life that divides most people’s attention from what they can control to what they can’t and what merely distracts.
But, I know that isn’t my choice and it would be a really boring and peaceful world if folks were outside gardening and controlling their food chain. And I am definitely not into making anyone’s decision for them on how to live their life. It is your story to tell and you get to choose the next chapter every day. Just like I get to choose.
I admit that I worry about seeds and livestock a lot more than I do about programs, sports, and government. I’m just busy not hurting people and not taking their things. I’m just busy growing plants and feeding animals. I’m just busy shortening and simplifying my life. I’m just busy thinking about the next addition to the plantation that is going to solve the next challenge I encountered. I’m just busy problem-solving, using math, and critically thinking about the land I have. But it’s not a pointless business. It’s a busy that has a structure and a goal.
So, get busy with being alive? Your mind will thank you.
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
