Personal Meditation No. 40

“Don't let the experiences of others stop you from living your life, however, don't disregard those experiences while you live your life.”

Embrace the Within.

You’ve got to live your life. No one else, despite their claims, can live it for you. And that means you’re going to have to make your own choices.

We are ill-equipped to make the right choices all the time. The choices we make hopefully become better as we grow older and mature. As we gain wisdom from without and within, we get to see the cycles of life and from that experience make better choices based on those experiences.

But they’re never going to be perfect choices because we’re not perfect. I think we spend a lot of time abusing ourselves mentally for not being perfect in our choices. We put a higher premium on the qualities of our decisions than we do those around us. It is much easier to forgive the actions of another than it is ourself.

And I think that is something we can all struggle at improving. Showing yourself grace and compassion as we grow and make mistakes. Rather than breaking ourselves down for the choices we make, we should congratulate ourselves on taking ownership of our life, our choices, our mind. Because there are so many owning nothing and being the victim, and we are at least trying to own our life, our body, our choices.

So, be a little nicer to yourself today? You deserve it.
