Personal Meditation No. 19
“Don’t be a doughnut. Fill your hole.”
Embrace the Within.
Filling my hole is something that made me whole. Looking for a way to fill that hole is a lot of trial and error. Sometimes you think you have it all figured out and you’re really just fooling yourself.
Last year I started working on the garden. I started working on growing. I started working on freeing myself a bit from the food chain. And I crashed and burned. It was a colossal failure. I think I managed to pick a few beans and harvest a few tomatoes. A tremendous flop.
This year, no matter how bad my outcomes, I began with a plan that already has yielded greens and peas. I have a weekly process of harvesting greens in place with broccoli sprouts planting, growing, and harvesting all in one week.
Have I figured it all out yet? Not in the least but I’m learning. I’m thinking. I’m watching. I’m adapting. I’m replanting. I’m repotting. I’m reacting and acting to the situations around me.
I believe most of us want to settle into a routine. We don’t want to think about life. We don’t want to engage with our reality, our experience. We simply want to unplug, pour some alcohol on it, pour some sugar on it, pour some carbs on it, pour some weed on it, and just coast through life. I used to feel that way as well.
I wasn’t as involved in my life. I was just unplugging and rolling with the punches. I chose not to do that anymore. I chose to change from reaction to action. I chose to become involved in the process of living again. I chose to make sure I was plugged into what mattered which did mean unplugging from other things.
I am no longer walking around with my giant doughnut hole looking for something to fill it. I am at a certain level of peace. And I know others see that peace as well. And I want that for them too. But, it takes change.
What are you going to fill that hole with today? Will the hole be there tomorrow? What do you want out of life? Do you want to coast toward death or do you want to make a change?
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
