Personal Meditation No. 164

"Start worrying about yourself. If you don't invest in your own life, then why would anyone else choose to invest in your life either."

Embrace the Within.

Folks get confused by the many moving parts of living in this age of society and it is quite understandable. The amount of change I have seen in my nearly five decades on this planet are unfathomable at times. If I told middle school me that I would be able to play games without having to write the code to create them and have every song ever created in my pocket, then I would have never fathomed it either. BUT here we are bombarded by technology. The key is that we control the amount of reach this technology has and the control this technology has over our lives.

I don’t dream about technology. My dreams are about ideas and conversations. My dreams are about folks I loved and folks I have never met. My dreams are about things I have done and things I have dreamed of doing. My dreams are about my fears and my hopes. BUT my dreams are never about technology. Technology is just a tool in my journey and not the quintessence of my existence. Technology is supposed to make things easier for us, however, it certainly appears that technology is making things more difficult now.

We like to picture ourselves as some different sort of animal than what we are. In actuality, we are just a basic animal with basic instincts and basic understanding. Our brains fall victim to thousands of years of survival programming in this digital age. Folks that understand influence and psychology are in a better position to take advantage of our base brain biases. And not understanding these biases make us vulnerable to that problem in our wiring.

It is not a matter of intelligence. This is all a matter of evolution and psychology. We can’t rewrite thousands of years of brain coding in a hundred years. We can be aware of that brain bias we possess and become metacognitive in our actions BUT we can’t change what got us to the dance. This survival instinct in our brain got us to this point BUT it is ill-equipped for the overload of today. So, I suggest simplification. Get back to what you value and start from there.

Having a tough conversation with yourself is an important part of moving forward with clarity and focus. You have to know what you truly value in order to live a life that is aligned. If you are not aligned, then you will not be healthy. Your mind will be torn in different directions for attention and focus. Clarity and focus of your goals and your values will get you feeling better mentally and physically. A house divided can not stand and a mind divided will cause collapse as well. What do you value? Focus on that and let it guide your journey.

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.

I got tired of looking for places to place blame and others to fix my problems. I hope you find some of what you're looking for here as well.
