Personal Meditation No. 16

“It may not be your fault but it is still your problem.”

Embrace the Within.

We started making some forward-thinking changes at work yesterday because of criticism of some of the novels we expect students to read. So, we started adding alternative titles to the list in case of blowback over certain parts of certain novels. It is not our fault that people might find fault with the novels we selected, however, this was still our problem to fix.

You can’t change how people are going to react to things. And you should never want to change them either. I think that part is the most difficult part of life to accept. People are going to make a total and absolute mess of their lives, maybe even your kids, and all you can really do is watch. You are not the one in control of them and that, my friends, is a hard fact of life to accept.

You can only control how you think and how you react. I get blowback all the time from people for the things I believe. I once got angry at people for not believing as I did. I would have long arguments and waste hours of my life fighting with them. And what was the point?

There was no point. I may have better utilized my time screaming at a wall. What I should have been doing was working on me. What I should have been doing is focusing on me. What I should have been doing was getting myself free. What I should have been doing is living the example.

You see, people don’t want to change. People want to appear to change. And that may not be my fault, however, the way I deal with that is my problem. The world around me is not my fault, however, it is still my problem. That is why every day I wake up and exercise. That is why every day I wake up and journal. That is why every day I wake up and feed the chickens. That is why everyday I wake up and water the greenhouses. That is why every day I look after my family. That is why everyday I learn something new. That is why every day I look after the garden. That is why everyday I check on the chickens. That is why every day I gather eggs. That is why every day I lock up the chicken coop. That is why every day I watch wrasslin. That is why every day I make the choices for me.

There are no days off for living free. There are no days off from being alive. Being alive is not your fault, however, it is your problem. So, start solving that problem today?

I hope you find whatever you are looking for. Have the day you want.

I got tired of looking for places to place blame and others to fix my problems. I hope you find some of what you're looking for here as well.
