Personal Meditation No. 152

“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Embrace the Within.

How people react to events in life is enlightening. I am often surprised by the way folks that I regard as appearing to be well-adjusted and normal routinely break apart at the slightest event to challenge the path of their life. I am also pleasantly surprised at how observant adolescents are at those actions. Although they routinely react out of proportion to their own events, and rightfully so because they are still working on this whole human thing, they are quite good at judging the reactions of others.

I used to get angry. I still do at times. Things still frustrate me. I was never a ball of rage rolling down the trail of life BUT I did get angry and still do at times. Now, that anger is at actions more than people. I can’t really blame folks for how they behave anymore after years of studying influence and looking back on my own poor choices. We are all going through a lot and some of us just don’t have any tools other than a hammer. And if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Perspective is really important when dealing with folks. This goes back to my conversation from earlier this week about wanting to change people into freethinkers. Or preaching folks the good word and looking for converts to responsibility and ownership. This just isn’t going to happen. Folks like having something external to blame. They thrive on being victims.

When you and I take the change to owning our actions and blaming ourselves, we leave all that victim mindset behind and begin to look at the world differently. It’s not that government, or society, or life, or gods, or demons, or nature, or anything else has conspired against us to make our days miserable. It is that we are doing these things to ourselves. We are putting out the bad and getting it right back and acting surprised. It should be no surprise that when you change that mindset that you attract the good as well.

I heard the local radio hosts poo-pooing the law of attraction this week. Since Oprah talks about it, conservatives, or those that adopt that persona on radio for their listening audience, like to make little of the law of attraction. Not that there isn’t science behind the idea. It’s simple quantum physics. BUT, it gets a target because it seems too simple.

One thing I have learned about life is that folks make it much more complicated than it need be. A lot of the simple answers are really quite enough to get you through life. My philosophy, my outlook, my mindset is really rather simple these days. It does involve looking at what I put out into the world and what I get back. And the more positive I remain and focused I remain on what I want, the more those things keep lining up. It’s no surprise to me anymore.

So, if you’re looking for something different, if you’re looking for change, you’re not going to find it outside of you. You’re not going to find change in blaming anyone else. You’re going to find change in working on you. And sometimes the simplest steps are the most life-changing and profound.

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
