Embrace the Within

I am working on breaking free of labeling folks. Folks are a lot more complicated than simple labels. Folks have a lot going on in their lives that we know nothing about. Just like most folks do not know our life story, we surely do not know the total of the complications, tribulations,and struggles with which they deal daily.

So, I am going to focus on giving folks more slack for the way they deal with life. Life is really intense and filled with a lot of decisions. I think back on the way I lived my life for nearly three decades and remember that the person back then was just as much on cruise control in his rut as most folks are. And judging him for not being able to get it together would not get me closer to where I am today or where I am going in the future.

So, a little empathy and compassion rather than judgment are going to go a long way for me. That is a choice I need to make in order to get my life on the path I want.

I think it’s going to involve adopting a more action-based approach to everything rather than passively sitting back in life. I am going to have to have my mind and body working together to make this change in mindset. And I am going to have to also accept that I am not going to be totally successful at this all the time. This isn’t an all or nothing situation. It is going to be, as all life, a process that needs to move towards perfection a little bit, a little step at a time.

So, that is my new goal to work towards this week, this month, this coming year as I work on the better me. Giving folks room to make their own choices and not let those choices allow me to place them in a box and label them. I need to choose empathy and grace.
