Personal Meditation No. 12

“You can’t outsource freedom.”

Embrace the Within.

People are lazy. This is because our brain is lazy. Our brain looks for any shortcut to doing intense work. Our brain functions on the same filters and warnings the brain used back when we were hunting and gathering in the prehistoric days. Our brain evolved very little over the past five thousand years while our technology evolved from the wheel and fire to 5G and voice control.

Our brains are not our friends. Most of the time our brain falls into sunk cost thinking and consistency to make it through the day. The brain doesn’t want to learn anything because that takes energy. Energy that sugar isn’t going to give us. Energy that processed foods isn’t going to give us. Energy that is in short supply today.

You can look around and see what this country is and is becoming. When you take a drive around, you see variations on the same theme. Every store, every restaurant, every town, every city, every county, every state is peddling the same thing. The thing might have a different wrapper, a different color scheme, a different decor, a different layout, but nothing monumentally different. It’s a culture of sameness.

And I know we like to champion that America is a nation of individuals with individual hopes and individual dreams but you can look around and see the sameness. We were indoctrinated about the pioneer spirit of our ancestors and their need for liberty but those folks were the minority. Those folks were the exception. Those folks were surrounded by a lot of sameness too.

As you grow older, people tend to romanticize how it was when they were younger. They like to trust their brain in remembering how it was. And, remember, our brain is not our friend. Our brain will lie to us because we want our brain to lie to us. We want to remember a better time and believe we can get to that better time. I want to tell you that the better time you remember wasn’t there. That past was a lot of the sameness you see today. A variation on that sameness but still a whole ton of sameness.

So, what do we do? If we can’t trust our brains because we want our brains to tell us reassuring lies, then what are we going to do to break the cycle of sameness?

You’ve got to program your brain into becoming a pioneer, program your brain into becoming a leader, program your brain into becoming a hero, program your brain to change.

You see you’ve been indoctrinated to worship the liberty mindset of Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton, Henry and others throughout the storied fable of America but you haven’t been taught how to be worshiped. You haven’t been taught how to be free.

I see posts every week about what “should be taught in schools”. Your brain wants you to believe that the Prussian education model is creating free people when it’s structure was to create good citizens, good workers, good consumers. Public school is established by a system as a system to keep you part of the system. Why would a system give you the tools to leave the system?

That doesn’t make any sense at all. Think about it. I’ll give you plenty of time. I’ll give you at least thirteen years, maybe twenty years of going every day and learning the same routine that punishes anything outside the system. Talk out of turn, get out of your seat, step out of line and straight to the system manager, or principal, you go. Government school isn’t an agent of change. So, please stop thinking that schools should teach something different. They’re not ever going to do that.

You have to do that. You have to be the hero in your own story. You have to be the change. You have to clearly examine what’s happening around you. You need to make those decisions. You need to accept these difficult truths. You need to figure it out. You need to change. You need to get free. Or don’t. Ultimately it is your choice.

You can’t outsource freedom. So, on this Memorial Day weekend when people are thanking living veterans rather than remembering how many veterans this county has buried. This Memorial Day weekend when you’re wearing your #SkyCloth apparel and saying the #MagicPrayer that gets you your freedoms. Maybe understand you’re being sold, as Penn and Teller so gloriously titled their show, bull shit.

As prices rise and people would rather take a hand out than a hand up . . . As this system keeps people fighting over demagogues to worship . . . As this system teaches your children algebra but not budgeting . . . As this system teaches biology and not gardening . . . As this system takes on more debt and pushes the burden on you . . .

I hope you find whatever you are looking for. Have the day you want.
