Personal Meditation No. 103

“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Embrace the Within.

Each day I start out with a list. Part of the list is the routine that I normally run daily of working out and taking care of the plantation and some of the list is a physical list I make on notes that I keep right in front of the computer. I know that I will be sitting here and typing every morning. No better place to put my notes about my goals.

Yesterday my goal was to continue slowly on the plantation expansion I began two weeks ago. It is a slow process that I’m working through to get right. But I really wanted to get my fence completed since a gate without a fence is lonely. And daily there is an after work routine of getting the kids through homework and gathering eggs and feeding the plants and animals. But life doesn’t really care about my plans. That’s one of the things I have had to embrace. The idea that life couldn’t care any less about what I want. It has its own path. I have to make my journey through the obstacles of life because life is never going to flow exactly the way I want for the rest of my days.

So, I had to make a choice yesterday of whether I was going to put the fence off for tonight and the weekend or if I was going to get that one thing done. This isn’t a monumental undertaking I’m looking at here. This is nothing life-altering or earth-shattering. Putting up the fence was something I thought. It was a plan I wanted to complete. It was a goal.

So I had to choose if I was going to talk about putting up the fence or if I was going to actively put up the fence. And I knew I wouldn’t feel content to just let the fence go until today. I knew that I needed to finish that one thing that I have been trying to make time for since Tuesday. There were commitments on both Tuesday and Wednesday and the gate was built and the posts driven despite those commitments. There were commitments on Thursday and the fence was run. There are always commitments, struggles, diversions, problems, opportunities, and challenges in life. BUT, I chose to act.

Sometimes the simplest actions make the biggest differences. Talking about building fences, talking about making changes, talking about being better . . . It doesn’t make a fence, a change, or a difference. It just moves air. Thinking about those things is even less beneficial. Change comes down to action. Change is choosing to act. Change is doing.

Now I can talk about change, I can talk about building, I can talk about freedom OR I can enact change, build unity, get free. One moves air and the other gets results.

Are you going to keep talking about changing today OR are you going to enact change today? It’s your body, your mind, your choice. What will you choose?

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
