Embrace the Within no. 123
“Well, it’s in The Bible”, may be one of the simplistic excuses for creating a belief structure. There are lots of things in The Bible that are not in alignment with what the Way of the Lord. Sodomy is biblical. Murdering your brother is biblical. Incest is biblical. You can run the list of any number of horrible and sinful things that folks can and will do within the pages of The Bible.
Just because it is in The Bible is not an endorsement of that behavior being acceptable to God. Reading The Bible in the Spirit shows that every character BUT one within its pages is flawed and lost. David, Solomon, Moses, Abraham, Adam, Sarah, Mary, Joseph, Paul, you name them and they all have some flaws at one time or another. The only character within The Bible with whom we should model our life is Christ. The only character without any flaw. The only character that is God incarnate.
So when we talk about things being biblical, we are just saying that it’s in there. And there are a lot of things in there. That’s not an endorsement. The only person to ever get endorsed by God is Christ. The only person we should be listening to for salvation is Christ. And the only model for our behavior should be Christ.
