"Folks will obsess over things they can't control and ignore the things they can control."
Embrace the WIthin.
Last night Logan and I drove up to Balmur for the first live wrasslin show in fourteen days (I’m going to keep using the term fourteen days to mean a really long time from now forward). And I knew there were a lot of things I could not control about the show. I couldn’t control the venue, I couldn’t control the booking, I couldn’t control the wrasslers, I couldn’t control the traffic, I couldn’t control security. There was a multitude of shit that leaving my house puts under the control of others and surpasses my area of control. But, I had a great time. I even got goose bumps a couple times and that rarely happened in the past going to Best in the World pay-per-views.
But fourteen days can make the goose flesh appear when Dem Boys start the show. Goose flesh can appear when EC3 embraces a character that is amazingly crafted and presented. And despite botches and inconsistencies, I could sit there like a young wrasslin fan again and just enjoy the spectacle.
So, I couldn’t control the fourteen days or the reboot or anything out there. But, I went out there and found something was renewed. I found that the barrier, the fourteen days, the obstacle, made wrasslin even better than my first experience over thirty years ago.
I went in knowing I controlled very little but how I was going to feel. When I left, it was with a smile. I smiled at seeing the guys that run the show walking around and talking to fans, I smiled at seeing wrasslers push themselves, I smiled at watching wrasslers embrace seeing fans again, I smiled at the things I could not control.
A lot of things worried me about last night but wrasslin was the thing that worried me least. Mad props to Ring Of Honor.
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
