“The most rebellious action is taking ownership of your life.”

Be the Change.

And that is the kind of weekend I am talking about. Did you have a great time too? It was an awesome weekend for me filled with a lot of manual labor, dirt on my hands, shit on my clothes, and an all around dampness that felt great. If you’re considering an irrigation system, then I would highly recommend DIY-ing that thing rather than getting a kit. The kists just make things much more complicated and exhausting. It is done though and a lot more was accomplished as well.

My Friday night began with a chance encounter at Lowes. By now it seems like I am there every weekend again. I did have a few weeks there when the weather wasn’t conducive for visiting, however, now it’s back on the itinerary. Anywho, I was standing in line with one of my scouting shirts because they are great for gardening. They are totally breathable and light and colorful. So, the couple in front of me began a conversation about the beauty of my hair. And then the conversation turned to scouting after they noticed my shirt. Duder was a fellow Eagle Scout and a retired Scoutmaster of over two decades that was shopping for supplies to build a swing for the neighborhood children. What a great way to start the weekend.

And then the bulk of Saturday and Sunday I spent outside working on the plantation. A lot of little and big tasks were completed in anticipation of spring. Nothing helps with my mind like being outside. Nothing helps my body like getting work done. And nothing helps me spiritually more than time in the dirt. I hope you found something therapeutic that created a better feeling in your soul as well..

It’s been a long winter, a long fourteen days, and a long time to not be doing something productive outside without bundling. Have the week you want. I hope you found whatever you were looking for this weekend.

“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Be the Change.

Folks are easy to influence and manipulate. I know. Not you. BUT, yes you and me too. Just look around your InterWebs, listen to conversations, engage in small talk . . . folks want to be influenced into shortcuts to critical thinking. Principles and beliefs are secondary. Those things can change like socks. What is really important?

For most folks what is truly important is belonging. Whatever the leaders of the tribe say, then the congregation has to follow. There is a need for worship and in the place of religion these folks begin to worship the loudest voice. The most certain voice. The voice that echoes their message. Facts and rational thought be damned.

I like to question. I like to critically think. I like to look at motives. I guess I am just weird that way. BUT I am not going to just take someone’s word as if it were from the mouth of the Divine itself. I even question gospel and things written in stone. So, I am definitely going to question things typed or spoken. That is just my nature.

Folks want to talk about how things should change and then just go back to doing the same. And that is fine. Change is not coming from those folks. Change does not need them to be active participants. Those of us that are changing things need to just keep changing things. It will eventually catch up to them just like any change.

Twenty years ago folks campaigned on being against gay marriage. Twenty years ago folks campaigned against marijuana. And things change. Cultures change because we change the culture. And we need to continue doing our change. These changes did not occur because of the many doing soul searching and questioning their beliefs. These changes occurred because the many went along with the current. They rode the tide.

The few need to keep working on the path of the road and keep carving out the correct trail. The rest will follow. So, do not feel discouraged that your voice is small. Do not feel discouraged that your change is overlooked. Do not feel discouraged that you are misunderstood. The change will come as long as we commit to the change. Folks will come along for the ride.
