Wallace Stegner Meditation No. 1
“It is the beginning of wisdom when you recognize that the best you can do is choose which rules you want to live by, and it's persistent and aggravated imbecility to pretend you can live without any.”
― Wallace Stegner, All the Little Live Things
Courage is choosing to change.
I have a rule for that. Those rules are one of the reasons I am here tap-taping away Monday through Friday. I have rules to keep me moving towards the change.
I have rules that keep me away from the news. I have rules that make certain I eat healthy in a narrow window of time. I have rules all over the place.
The rules are of my own making. The rules are personal. The rules are sensical.
I am not a fan of other folks giving me their rules. They’re not my rules. They’re not based on my experience. They’re not based on the science of my life.
I hope you have your own rules. Not rules given to you. Not rules handed down. Not rules from years ago. Not rules from miles away. But rules you make.
We all need rules to guide our lives, however, it’s your life, your body, your choice. So make your rules and get out there and live them?
