Personal Meditation No. 63
“Stop tolerating intolerant folks.”
Embrace the Within.
There is something about people that allows the majority of them to talk about other folks but genuinely allow their neighbors to live however they like. Most people want to just get along and avoid confrontation as much as possible. They just want to live their life, sure, they’ll talk trash and gossip but they’re not out to go out of their way to bother folks.
Then there are the intolerant folks. Everyone has to fall in line for them. There is no live and let live. There is no agree to disagree. There is no my body, my choice. There is no room for dissent. There is only compliance and conformity to their perceived reality.
The mistake I have made for too long is believing those people that want to recreate the world in their image should just be allowed to live their lives. I wish they would and life would be just that easy. But there is a growing number of intolerant people with a diversity of beliefs that simply can’t allow other people to coexist. They know better than you and they will not take no for an answer.
These folks are emboldened by their connection to a cult of personality and share an entitlement to being morally superior. They will not abide the possibility that other ideas and actions are better than the ones they are living. They will use every resource against any dissent in order to complete their campaign. So, stop tolerating these folks because they don’t tolerate you.
I am all for a decentralized system of life where folks aren’t busy worrying about what goes on next door, down the street, or the next town over. I like the idea of letting folks live as dangerously or safely as they want as long as they don’t infringe on other folks to live as they deem acceptable as well. My body, my choice.
But we still are social creatures and need to use the power of the shunning and the shaming for folks that are juiced-up on control. It’s time to shun and shame them for their attempts at controlling their neighbors. It’s time to point the finger at them and say, “Shame on you! Shame! Shame!” It’s time to tell them that we’re tired of their intolerance for people that look, think, or act differently than them. It’s time to explain that we’re not going to allow them access to our lives until they can control themselves rather than walking around trying to control others. It’s time to put the blame squarely where it belongs . . . On the intolerant.
Shame on you for thinking you know better than me how to live my life. Shame on you for wanting to be the boss of the world. Shame on you for thinking you are better than me.
Shame!
I hope you find whatever you’re looking for. Have the day you want.
