“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Embrace the Within.

I am always learning new things. I hope you are as well. Learning is not something that stops one day if you’re going to keep living abundantly. You do not get days off from working on living either. That is one thing I do not understand about most folks. They learned all they need to learn to get them to death. One day they just stopped learning. Sure, new information is out there. They process that information BUT the information does not lead to learning or change. I never quite fathomed that sameness.

And since a lot of folks are the same for the majority of the time we meet them, folks make the assumption that everyone is the same. There is no expectation of change in character or knowledge or health or belief or philosophy or anything. This is why folks are shocked by growth. It isn’t their expectation. Folks are one way forever.

So, there isn’t a lot of space in their thinking for those of us that do change. We violate their need for consistency. I am consistently learning. And sometimes that means changing my mind about actions and thoughts in my past. That has nothing to do with me being untrustworthy or inconsistent. It is only my dedication to learning and the scientific method. Trying out new things and testing where they get me along the path.

Folks are concerned about change. They want things to be like they idealistically remember them. BUT being healthy means going forward. Living in the past, yearning to return, dreaming of memories, are not going to help us live in the present and future. Those days of yesterday are great to look back on fondly BUT our home is in the present. We can’t get those pasts back no matter how we try and hope and wish. We need to, I need to, be present in the present.

Some folks look back on the past and all they want is change. They want things to be different. They so want to eliminate the past. And that is not healthy either. The past is a lesson on which to build your tomorrow. You take what worked and what did not work and use that knowledge to move forward, hoping to learn from the mistakes and triumphs of the past. I hope you find peace with the past as you work on your present. The present is the path to the destination, the goal, the path to your better tomorrow. The past is just going to keep you chasing your tail. Set yourself free into the future.

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.

“Your beliefs are your actions. What you say is just what you think.”

Embrace the Within

When you’re just starting to realize where you went wrong in life and get the correct message for your life, it is natural to be overzealous about sharing that message with everyone to the point of alienating many. I have been through that process and find myself talking others through that process. The message does not need to be strictly religious or political or philosophical or moral or educational or psychological or fitness, because the nature of the message is unimportant. The fervor with which we adopt this new message can be overwhelming for anyone outside the message.

It is only natural that when you find the “good word” that you would want to share that message with others. And our enthusiasm for that message is where we sometimes fall short in our goals. Folks don’t want to hear your message no matter how well-formed, mind-altering, or life-changing. Folks are in their own way with a lot of stuff they have to process. They have a lot of other stuff to work through that is eating up a lot of their time. And adding your message into that mix is not going to simplify their life, on the contrary, it is going to complicate their life. Folks are not ready to complicate their lives.

So, I do have to talk to folks that are excited about their new message to calm down because I did much the same thing when I got into personal responsibility and living abundantly. I wanted to spread the word far and wide. I wanted to convert the masses. I wanted to preach the good word to everyone. Everyone had to understand why they were wrong and why this message was right. I get that mindset. I have moved past that mindset BUT I get that excitement.

Folks do not get that excitement because they are not looking for something. Folks are not looking for a message because they are looking to survive. Folks already have a message that was good enough to get them here. Folks are not looking to change their paradigm, incorporate a new system, or learn a different way of living. Folks are good with where they are.

I don’t want you to calm down about your message. I don’t want you to not change. I just want some understanding of where you are and where most folks are in life. If you need some perspective, then just listen to conversations of the folks around you, listen at a staff meeting, listen while walking through a store, listen while waiting in line, and look at social media posts. These folks are just struggling to live in a world with a lot of information, a lot of disinformation, a lot of influence, a lot of distractions, a lot of noise . . . It’s a lot. So, don’t get disheartened or angry when folks do not see things your way. Just consider how you once saw things as well. And realize that no one was changing your mind, your body, your soul, your life, other than you.

So, preach the “good word” with as much energy as you like. Just manage your expectations of how folks will receive your message.

Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
