“Peace to your house.”

Some days I don’t feel like I am doing enough because, in spite of all the work I do, I am not constantly busy. And since I am not constantly busy, then I feel like maybe I could be doing more. And that cycle is something I have to struggle against with my brain daily.

I am quite certain that some days are more busy than others. And some days are more exhausting than others. And if I, with the whole plantation and the like, can feel like I am not doing enough, then some of you probably feel the same. BUT it’s alright. That is just those evil spirits out there in play trying to get me insecure and worried. What I need to do is just focus on my peace . . . . And that peace today means surviving an air conditioning unit that is leaking. Using an assortment of beach towels, I am creating a sort of system for mopping and catching the condensation and drying the towels in shifts during a rather hot and humid part of the summer. I am running the air for only eight hours the next two days and every four hours, I trade out a set of towels for another. I was trying to push that limit even further BUT I don’t want to test the limits of my children.

Peace to your home. Bless your being. The reign of God is now. Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.

“Peace to your house.”

Embrace the Within.

Folks will gladly bring you into the struggle they are fighting in their minds, their hearts, and their souls. We have to choose peace. BUT that is difficult because others will do their level best to make certain you are not allowed peace. I was talking on the phone with my father last night and we were talking about all the distractions in the world and how those distractions are there to occupy our time, our thoughts, and our actions. Those distractions are there to keep our focus off of the peaceful and abundant life we can attain. When we can sit peacefully and think about life and the wonders that surround us daily, we find it much easier to keep our focus where it is intended. BUT distraction is there to come into our minds and into our hearts to lead us down paths of preoccupation and distraction.

What we need is traction and this is why it is important to live with a purpose. I am reading another wonderful book this summer by Nir Eyal about the ways to bring about more traction and remove distraction from our lives. The process uses a lot of techniques taken from substance abuse programs to apply to the things that make us lose focus. And I highly recommend this book as not just a read BUT as a psychological guide to getting more focused in living with traction. Eyal not only includes little summary “Remember This” end notes to each chapter BUT also includes electronic forms to help incorporate these practices into action. Anything can be a distraction if it keeps us from doing what we intend.

And that is one of the main struggles I see today. There are so many things out there to compete for our time and attention. We have to decide where we decide to spend our time. The one treasure we need to value the most is the one we squander. There are going to be plenty of folks competing for your time and are willing to waste it with arguments, waste it with division, waste it with pettiness, waste it with anger, waste it with hatred, waste it with all kinds of pointless endeavors BUT we get to choose where we spend that time. And we get to choose with whom we spend that time.

Where is your focus?

Peace to your home. Bless your being. The reign of God is now. Have the day you want. I hope you find whatever you’re looking for.
