“You are only as helpless as you want to believe.”

Be the Change.

A lot of folks are just victims. Life simply happens to them and they respond out of a place of weakness and inferiority. Folks feel like they don’t know enough to try something new. They don’t know enough to follow their dreams. They don’t know enough to be successful. They don’t know enough to really understand their purpose.

And the difference between those that are victims and those that are living an abundant life is not knowledge. What you know or do not know does not make you more successful. Being willing to make a change is what separates the two.

I didn’t become healthier by knowing what was healthy and unhealthy. I didn’t become a better writer by reading about writing. I didn’t become a better researcher by watching videos about research. I didn’t become a better philosopher by reading more philosophy. The action is what separates the knowledge of what is from the doing of what is.

You can sit around all day watching videos, reading blogs, analyzing books, and talking about ideas, however, you actually have to do the thing in order to change who you are. Over the past fourteen days I have repeatedly written about how your actions are what you believe and that what you say are only words. Words without deeds are worthless. Folks talk a lot about changing themselves in January BUT by Match those goals are cast aside. Folks talk about change when they encounter sickness and death BUT quickly forget those words when time passes.

What separates folks from living the life they want? The action of change. Folks spend a lot of time on excuses for why they aren’t ready to change. They don’t know enough. It’s not the right time. Just let me get this one thing handled. Once I get through the holidays . . . . There is never a right time when all you want are excuses BUT every time is the right time if you are looking to change.

Fourteen days ago I knew things had to change. I knew that change needed to happen fourteen days before that and fourteen days before that and fourteen days before that . . . . ad infinitum. BUT nothing changed until I accepted that it was time to change. Nothing changed until I took control of aligning myself with my purpose. Nothing changed until I made the decision that I was going to act like the person I wanted to be.

I struggle. I fight. I fail. BUT I am never going back. I could never live in a state of victimhood anymore. I could not go back to blaming folks and systems for my problems. I have taken ownership of my story and there is a lot of power in making that change. When you align yourself with what you want out of life those invisible hands start to make their presence felt in a positive light. Things start to line up. And you can call that the work of God, fate, destiny, the universe or anything else BUT you will find it true. When you align your self with your purpose, there is an order that appears in the chaos.

A lot of us are lost in the chaos. We get so bogged down with the mess of life that we fail to see the order. We fail to find the hope and joy in life. We get bogged down in the temporal and the transitory. We fail to live infinitely and abundantly. We get mired down in our humanity and fail to recognize our own divinity. Between God and me, there is no between.

“The most rebellious action is taking ownership of your life.”

Be the Change.

I was sitting in Catholic mass this weekend thinking about how much of the religion of Catholicism is based upon victimhood. This same system that held responsibility for some of the most heinous atrocities in the history of mankind is based on a teaching of victimhood. You are not responsible for being born into sin. You are not responsible for how life has worked out. You are not responsible for fixing any of the problems. Someone else is going to fix those problems for you if you simply fall in line with the system.

I really don’t think there is a lot more ownership in any Protestant form of the religion which I found strange because there is a lot of ownership in Christianity. You have to choose to love I Am, you have to choose to love your self, you have to choose to love your neighbor, you have to choose to be the Son . . . A lot of choices there you have to make. You see that you are not separate from the message. You start to see that the message is dependent on your action.

So when I saw the post this weekend about not allowing assholes to call themselves Christians, I think that really resonated because in my decades of attending church services of various types across the state of Maryland, I have found a lot of assholes playing pretend on Sundays.

Let’s be honest, there are a lot of people playing pretend every day of the week, in every location you can picture, just being assholes. Their reasons for being assholes are as varied as there are folks BUT they are all victims in their own minds. Folks that take ownership are too busy working on them to worry about being assholes. We may be inconsiderate or rude at times because your shit is getting in the way of us working on our shit BUT we aren’t going out of our way to make anyone’s life more difficult. We understand that life is difficult enough.

And I still see these posts of folks that keep repeating that of folks talking about how they mirror the energy other people give. That the way you treat me determines the way I treat you. That it’s their fault that I acted that way. And that is an enslaved mindset. That is a mindset that takes away your personal responsibility. That is a mindset based on external controls for your personal choices. That is a mindset that points fingers rather than taking accountability.

The world is filled with folks ready to take advantage of your victim mindset. Whether it be systems of religion, systems of government, systems of family, systems of employment . . . systems of control are looking to placate you. They’re waiting to agree that it isn’t your fault. That life has been unfair to you. That the other folks are out to get you and take away your power while all along you are giving away your power. You have it inside you. You just need to embrace that power. Embrace what is within you.

It may not all be in your mind BUT you can already lose the battle before they begin just because you’re not in control of your mind. Get that body healthy. Get spiritually healthy. Stop being a victim and start owning your choices. As one of the most empowering podcasters out there Marsha Vanwynsberghe says, “Own your choices, own your life”.
